A Future Unlived: German Internment in SA

Posted on: Mon 8 May 2017

Prior to World War I, the German-Australian community were seen as model citizens within South Australia. Yet all of a sudden in 1914, an anti-German sentiment took hold of the state and nation, leading to the internment and marginalisation of Germans.

Local historian Mike Wohltmann spoke with Jennie Lenman about this dark chapter in South Australia’s history as detailed in his book A Future Unlived.

If you’d like to hear more about this topic, Mike will be speaking at the Port Adelaide Library on Thursday May 11 2017 at 6 pm as part of the SA History Festival.
