Yvonne’s Story is South Australia’s Story

Yvonne Edwards was an artist and strong community leader from Maralinga.

Her story reflects the long term fall out on people from the atomic tests in South Australia in the 1950s.  She had a hard life, with many losses, but continued to give her family and community love and strength.

Acclaimed South Australian author Christobel Mattingly has written a book focussing on Yvonne’s life.  She says that Yvonne’s story reveals a terrible part of South Australia’s history that is not widely known.

“Maralinga’s Long Shadow:  Yvonne’s Story” is published by Allen & Unwin

and is available at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute
