The Curse of Coal

Posted on: Tue 11 Aug 2020

In Australia we grow stuff, and we dig up stuff, and we ship it out. Our country has always been very dependent on resources, but now some of those resources – especially coal and gas – are not only diminishing in demand, they are outmoded forms of energy that need to be discontinued. Judith Brett, emeritus Professor of Politics at LaTrobe University, has recently published a Quarterly Essay on this subject – Australia’s dependence on coal, and how it came to be that way.
