Adelaide Festival’s 60 years

Posted on: Sat 21 Mar 2020

While the Adelaide Festival had its 60th year this season, and a special book published to mark the occasion, executive director Rob Brookman says it’s “hard to celebrate”.

Because, one hour after the last event finished, the “curtains came down on pretty much all live performance and entertainment in the country”.

“We really grieve for what’s going on within our industry and our culture at the moment where we’re just watching our colleagues, artists, arts workers, instantly out of a job, hard to celebrate,” he tells presenter Tara Nash.

Listen back as he weighs in on the pandemic, the effect it has on artists, as well as how the festival developed during its 60 years.
