Government Misuse of Sports Grants Controversy

Posted on: Tue 21 Jan 2020

Current Agricultural Minister for the coalition, Bridget McKenzie, has been scrutinised for allegedly allocating Government Sports Grants unfairly so to sway marginal seats leading to the 2019 election.

A scathing report from the auditor general suggests McKenzie did not have the authority to approve $100 million in grants and allocate them as such.

This has led to calls for McKenzie to resign and defence from Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Maria O’Sullivan, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Monash University, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Zoe Kounadis to discuss this recent controversy.
