Screens Review – Suzi Q and On Becoming a God in Central Florida

Posted on: Fri 22 Nov 2019

This week’s screen review wrap up features the Suzi Quatro documentary, as well as the TV series On Becoming a God in Central Florida.

Suzi Q is a newcomer in an already saturated music documentary market. It emphasises Quatro’s impressive five-decade-long career, but has it done justice to the adversity she faced being a woman in the music industry?

On Becoming a God in Central Florida follows the life of a minimum-wage water park employee who lies, schemes, and cons her way up the ranks of the cultish, multibillion-dollar pyramid scheme that drove her family to ruin. Entrenched in systemic poverty, she battles the underlying systemic structures keeping her in poverty.

Aimee Knight talks about these productions with Zoe Kounadis and Tom Mann.
