Women’s International Film Festival

Posted on: Sat 24 Aug 2019

Adelaide SAGA director Mona Khizam says 93 per cent of the films we see are made by men.

“You do have the default position of the male gaze or the male opinion,” she says.

“Where are women’s stories? If you get the women’s stories and the various perspectives, you get a diverse picture of the human race out there.

“Women want to see themselves reflected in film, most filmgoers are female, we need to see our own stories.”

She speaks to presenter Tara Nash on the weekend of the SAGA Adelaide’s Women International Festival.
