Homelessness rising in capital cities

Since 2001, the incidence of homelessness in Australia’s capital cities has increased greatly, with a disproportionate rise occurring in areas with higher median rents. Key figures were released yesterday by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute. We spoke with Deborah Batterham, researcher at Melbourne specialist homelessness service Launch Housing, to discuss what can be done to combat this growing problem.
