Penalty Rate Cuts

In 2017 the Fair Work Commission decided to decrease penalty rates paid to Australia’s retail and hospitality workers citing evidence that reducing penalty rates would create more jobs. Two years later, research by Martin O’Brien, Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Wollongong, suggests a different story. He spoke with Zoe and Tom about his findings.
