In 1872, sufragette Victoria Woodhull becomes the first woman nominated for the U.S Presidency.

J Edgar Hoover is appointed of the FBI in 1924.

Metal band Iron Maiden go to No. 1 on the U.K album charts in 1982 with their album Number of the Beast.
