RSL: Women’s Symposium

Posted on: Mon 15 Oct 2018

A Women’s Symposium was held at Keswick Barracks by the RSL SA Women’s Sub Branch as part of Veterans’ Health Week, an initiative of the Australian Government. This year the theme was ‘nutrition’.

The Department of Veterans Affairs partnered with many ex-service organisations, serving ADF members and community groups to organise fun events that highlight the importance of improving and maintaining good health. Of course, good nutrition (eating better and smarter) is essential for an individual’s health at all ages and plays a key role in reducing the risk of developing a range of chronic health conditions.

You notice the ‘fun’ word in the above paragraph?  Well, the new President of the RSL SA Women’s Sub-Branch, Krystle Fishwick, led the Women’s Symposium into a full day of topics pertinent to the serious issues of health and wellbeing. Subjects included healthy and active ageing for women; caring for the healthy heart;  and the prevalence of mental disorder in ADF servicewomen. But it also included fun aspects that got everyone out of their seats and working together!
