On this day in history, Sadly, Australia and the world lost an icon.

The Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray while filming on this day in 2006 off the coast of Queensland.

 

Also on this day in 2008 at an auction in London, two iconic pieces of music memorabilia were sold for huge sums of money.

The original contract between the Beatles and manager Brian Epstein signed by the four original members of the band was sold for 240,000 pounds.

The Fender Stratocaster guitar famously set on fire by Jimi Hendrix was sold for 280,000 pounds.
