Education

further education no longer a dream

Posted on: Tue 4 Sep 2018

Fewer teenagers are planning to further their education after finishing school according to a new survey from the Australian Council for Educational Research.

The research reveals in 2003, 63 percent of teenagers went on to pursue university degrees and 8 percent pursued TAFE diplomas.

The most recent research from 2015 shows those percentages have decreased to 54 and 3.

Teenagers who are disadvantaged are even less likely to further their education.

Sue Thomson, Deputy CEO of the Australian Council for Educational Research joined Breakfast’s Casey to discuss why.
