Jessie Lloyd and the Mission Songs

Posted on: Fri 27 Jul 2018

In this week’s Anangu Lands Paper Tracker radio interview, we talk about songs and music and remembering the past through stories that have been told through song and passed down from generation to generation.

We are joined by Jessie Lloyd who has gathered songs and stories and has saved them from being forgotten. Jessie has played a really important role in keeping stories and songs alive. Some of the songs remind us about various government policies and events that have affected people’s lives.

Jessie originally comes from North Queensland, Palm Island. She’s a singer, guitarist, ukulele player, a gatherer of songs and a story teller and is dedicated to keeping song traditions alive.

This program includes the tracks, “Down in the kitchen”, “Own Native Land” and “The Irex”, off the album ‘The Songs From Back Home’ by Jessie Lloyd and the Mission Songs Project.
