Climate and Australian Ecosystems

Posted on: Wed 11 Jul 2018

The natural resilience of many ecosystems in Australia is being overwhelmed by a combination of both the gradual effects and the isolated extreme weather events brought about by climate change.

As these extreme events are predicted to increase in the future, a new theoretical framework is being applied to inform management decisions.

The ‘Press and Pulse’ model identifies the interactions between gradual trends or ‘Press’ events with catastrophic ‘Pulse’ events.

Rebecca Harris is a Climate Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania and she joins Breakfast’s Tom and Casey to speak about her latest research into the biological impacts of climate change.
