Liberals Face Backlash for ABC Privatisation Vote

Posted on: Tue 19 Jun 2018

Over the weekend at the Liberal annual council convention, a vote to privatise the ABC was passed with a two-thirds vote in favour of the motion. Public backlash has followed as it goes against one of Malcolm Turnbull’s election promises for the ABC to remain in public hands. Communications Minister Mitch Fifield was quick to distance himself from the vote, maintaining that it was not a binding vote and was not going to happen. However, the vote shows an obvious division within the Liberal Party.

Breakfast‘s Sam and Casey spoke to Sue Pinnock, President of the Friends of the ABC South Australia, to discuss why promises made by the Communications Minister should be taken with caution.
