Auckland Regional Fuel Tax

Posted on: Mon 4 Jun 2018

The Auckland Council has approved a regional fuel tax for a minimum period of 10 years. The tax of 11.5 cents per litre was approved 13 votes to 7.

It is expected to raise $1.5 billion, which will be invested in the Auckland Transport Alignment Project, the primary purpose of which is to upgrade the city’s bus and rail facilities.

However, not everyone is convinced about the tax, with some sections of the community railing against the additional cost.
