Remote dialysis now on Medicare!

Posted on: Fri 11 May 2018

In this week’s program we hear about a very exciting development – the changes that the Australian Government is making to Medicare-funded renal medicine items.

These changes come out of recommendations made by the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Taskforce, following a review of the MBS items by clinicians, health system experts and consumers.

It’s taken years of advocacy and lobbying and organising to get to this point. Lots of work has been done by community leaders, the Purple House, NPY Women’s Council and other organisations to finally get secured payment for remote dialysis treatments.

To find out more, we talk with Sarah Brown from Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku – also known as the Purple House.

The program includes songs sung by the Ernabella Choir off their album produced by Tracks of the Desert and the Ara Irititja Project.
