Marine parks gutted

In the last week of March, the Senate considered the government’s revised management plans for Australia’s marine reserves.

This was the latest episode in the political contest over protection for these reserves that has covered many years and a change in government.

The plans finally endorsed by the Senate will result in a significant downgrading in protection compared to when the reserves were first proclaimed in under the Labor government in 2012.
