The pressures of living as a carer on a low income

Posted on: Fri 19 Jan 2018

Kym is a single mother and carer for her teenage daughter who is living with a disability, and in one of the highest needs categories for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

They are living in a private rental property and for a long time now have been on a waiting list for community or public housing, so they can live in a home that is more accessible and wheelchair-friendly.

Kym speaks to Small Change‘s Lisa Burns about the cost of living pressures associated with living on a low-income, renting and utilities, as well as meeting the specialised needs of her daughter.
