Same Sex Marriages across Australia begin

Posted on: Wed 10 Jan 2018

Australia celebrated the first official day of marriage equality on 9 January 2018 as couples were officially allowed to tie the knot.

Advocate for the ‘Yes’ campaign, Caitlyn Georgeson says it was a huge deal. ‘Ultimately I think yesterday was a celebration of the law recognising what we always knew. Which is that our lives and our relationships have the same value and worth as any other relationship and it was finally a time for celebration,” she said.

Georgeson joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann to speak about how the first opportunity for people to get married without exemption panned out.
