Australia’s Mismanaged Energy Market

Posted on: Tue 12 Sep 2017

The Federal Government is considering whether or not it will support AGL’s Liddell coal-fired power station in NSW. Though discussion about our emissions target seems to have waned, the fact that our government cannot make a clear decision one way or the other about which direction to take our energy needs is concerning.

“The energy industry collectively has a very clear message to government, that is: tell us what your objectives are, put in place whatever policy mechanisms will be implemented, keep them in place, and we will invest in whatever generating capacity best suits those objectives and is the cheapest at the time.” – ANU’s Professor Frank Jotzo
