Look Beyond Looks

Posted on: Mon 11 Sep 2017

In December 2016, university student Surabhi Shubraj was sexually assaulted by a close friend.

Disappointed and afraid, Surabhi was unsure what she could do.

After a few months of reflection, Surabhi realised it was important to talk about what happened to her and offer support to others in similar situations.

“What was going on inside wasn’t actually being supported outside” said Surabhi.

Since then, Surabhi has started an organisation called Look Beyond Looks, which seeks to engage and educate people about the sexual rights and responsibilities of individuals and provide support for victims of sexual assault.

“It doesn’t matter who we are and what we choose to do, we have the right to respect.”

Surabhi joined Jennie Lenman in the studio to talk about her experiences and what Look Beyond Looks seeks to do.
