Manus Island Update

Posted on: Fri 18 Aug 2017

“This is getting very hard…living conditions are getting hard. Immigration and authority has cut power. Australian immigration has tried to coerce us to leave, to no place….”

Today marks the 18th day refugees in Papua New Guinea have been staging a peaceful silent protest on Manus Island. As the October deadline for the closure of the centre approaches, refugees have become more and more anxious about whether they will be able to find peace and safety.

Iranian asylum seeker, Amir Taghiania joined Jennie Lenman to discuss his growing nerves about his status in Australia, his time at Manus and his fears for safety on the island.
