Metiria Turei has Announced Retirement

Posted on: Mon 14 Aug 2017

Just weeks before the New Zealand general election, Green’s co-party leader, Metiria Turei has announced she will be retiring from politics.

“For a lot of people is was really devastating when she stepped down” explains Pearl Little.

The announcement has come after she experienced extreme scrutiny after admitting she has lied to gain more welfare benefits in her past to support her family. She used her example while campaigning for a benefit reform.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand Labour Party have seen a massive surge in the first polls to come out for the election, they are polling at their highest since January 2014.

Changing the pace now, a New Zealand real estate agent has tried to overturn his ban, after he sent faeces and other foul things to another employee in the mail.

Jennie Lenman and Ian Newton joins New Zealand correspondent, Pearl Little from 95bFM, to discuss more.
