A settlement was recently reached between the Government and Manus Island detainees, whose claim involved physical and psychological harm at the hands of security during their stay in Manus Island Detention Centre.
Human rights lawyer and refugee advocate Julian Burnside spoke with Jennie Lenman about the outcome, saying “We could have actually saved money, by handing each one of them a million dollars in cash and telling them to go look for a country that will take them”.
