Santos plans on four-degree rise

Oil and gas company Santos has admitted its business plans are based on a climate change scenario of a four-degree rise in global temperatures, which is at odds with internationally agreed efforts under the Paris Climate Change Agreement. Its chairman, Peter Coates, made the comments at the company’s Annual General Meeting in Adelaide on Thursday 11 May 2017, telling shareholders it was “sensible” and “consistent with good value”.

Market Forces is a group which critiques the institutions that are financing environmentally destructive projects. To dissect the mindset of Santos, Barometer’s Des Lawrence spoke to the group’s Julien Vincent.
